SHORT DESCRIPTION
The Marketing Copywriter creates persuasive content and ensures its accuracy across various channels, while collaborating with stakeholders to enhance brand engagement and maintain high-quality standards.
The Marketing Copywriter must be a creative and detail-oriented writer who crafts engaging and persuasive content that resonates with the target audience. They will primarily focus on writing and editing content assets across several mediums, ensuring clarity and accuracy while addressing structure, punctuation, grammar, and syntax.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for collaborating with stakeholders to resolve recurring issues and refine drafts. In addition to writing, this role involves proofreading content to guarantee it’s polished, error-free and well-structured across all marketing deliverables.
This role requires a sharp eye for detail, a passion for writing, and the ability to thrive under pressure.
Job Responsibilities
Copywriting — 65%
- Develops accurate, effective, and legally compliant marketing copy in support of the objectives of the organization and its lines of business, including B2B and B2C product marketing, event marketing, and business development content under the direction of the Manager, Global Content Development.
- Writes and edits copy for print and digital channels including, but not limited to web, social, and email based on approved marketing messages using content marketing best practices.
- Expert in Assurant’s brand voice. Builds compelling product, topic, and campaign positioning that measurably improves engagement with target audiences and supports the brand.
Proofreading — 25%
- Supports the development of accurate, effective, and legally compliant marketing content that aligns to the objectives of the organization and its clients.
- Ensures content is as clearly presented, syntactically and grammatically correct and polished, and that the appropriate tone, voice, and style are maintained throughout.
- Works with partners throughout the life of project to incorporate changes, input proofing comments, and ensure content is up-to-date and accurate.
- Proofreads and fact checks marketing materials for spelling, grammar, punctuation, typographical errors, AP Style, and adherence to compliance guidelines.
Subject Matter Expert — 10%
- Works with line of business marketers to understand line of business objectives, marketing key messages, and product specifics.
- Works with line of business marketers and content team to develop content.
- Resolves questions and problems relating to content, grammar, punctuation, branding, style, tone, and voice.
- Demonstrates up-to-date knowledge of the products and their marketing contexts.
Basic Qualifications
- 4-year degree in a related subject, such as English, publishing, advertising, communication, or journalism
- Minimum 2-3 years copywriting and content marketing experience for an agency or an in-house corporate team
- Knowledge of various forms of content development including print, web, social, email, and email. Strong focus on digital content.
- Excellent written English, including good spelling and grammar
- Meticulous approach to work and an eye for detail
- Excellent proofreading skills
- Expert knowledge of AP Style
- Ability to maintain high-quality work while meeting tight deadlines
- An inquisitive mind
- Good concentration to focus on content that may be lengthy or highly technical
- Sound judgement in applying client (internal and/or external) style guide
- A tactful approach when dealing with writers and other stakeholders
- Ability to retain the writer’s voice after editing
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro DC
Preferred Skills
- Curious, creative, and knowledgeable about a broad variety of topics
- Collaborator who works well in team environment
- Experience working in a corporate environment
- Knowledge of CMS and project management systems a plus
