The activities we organize and operate include, but are not limited to College & Career Readiness, Mentoring, After-school Program, Media Arts, Youth Leadership Council, Field Trips, various sports like basketball, wrestling, flag football, and others. Mass Communication Specialist
JOB TITLE: Mass Communication Specialist - Media Arts / Video Production
QUALIFICATIONS:
A Teaching certificate, Mass Communications Degree or equivalent in experience both in teaching and in the content area preferred.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Mass Communication Specialist will teach students grades 6-12th basic and advanced concepts of journalism, photography, video production, editing, and sound design. The instructor will also lead the students in analyzing the place of film and television in art, culture, and industry to include drama.
Employees are expected to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined in the Dunn PAL, Inc. Employee Manual. The performance standards listed below represent the essential functions of the job.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide Media instruction and support in Dunn PAL’s Media program and online TV programming to include ROKU Channel.
2. Support research, planning, production and satisfactory completion of youth public service announcements, documentary films, and other media projects.
3. Leverage local University academic partnerships in innovative and creative ways to support the program
4. Program Planning and Curriculum Development: participate in weekly media program planning sessions and contribute to the development of media production and media literacy curriculum, including developing production workshops (on camera operations, framing, lighting, audio, logging, editing, etc.)
5. Organize and maintain Media files and Media equipment: manage and maintain media files for video programming and oversee inventory and general maintenance of Dunn PAL’s media equipment.
6. Participate in other Dunn PAL programs and staff meetings, events and retreats
7. Engage in Media network development, including, but not limited to, communication and outreach with other youth media organizations and distribution outlets and participation in relevant training sessions, site visits and/or seminars relating to youth media.
8. Initiate/Supervise Performing Arts Student Production Crew
9. Update and develop Media curriculum to enhance classroom instruction.
10. Develop and create special projects as requested by the Dunn PAL Administration.
11. Work with the local media to raise awareness of the Dunn PAL and the Media program and cultivate partnerships with foundations, individuals and organizations who want to help grow the program.
STAFF-PARENT-SCHOOL-COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIPS:
- Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations with staff
- Works cooperatively with all personnel (Directors, Student Services staff, schools) to benefit students
- Encourages positive school-community relationships
- Communications effectively with parents to enhance the learning process by responding to or initiating parent contacts in a timely, professional and constructive manner
- Adhere to the Dunn PAL policies.
PROFESSIONALISM:
- Establishes and pursues goals to improve professional competence
- Works in a supportive role with colleagues (e.g. cooperative course planning, curriculum development, lesson plans, materials preparation, methodology)
- Maintains knowledge of current trends in his/her field through professional activities (e.g. attending professional meetings, enrolling in relevant courses, reading relevant literature)
- Executes Dunn PAL policies and procedures
- Identifies PAL, school or curriculum problems and suggest appropriate solutions
- Uses appropriate channels to resolve concerns and problems
Additional Job Performance Responsibilities as the Mass Communication Specialist:
- Maintains proficiency in the use of current video production equipment and non-linear editing software
- Assumes responsibility for the proper use, care, storage, and security of the production equipment
- Establishes a plan for equipment selection, acquisition, and the replacement of production hardware
- Manages the Educational Television Studio as a functional and orderly environment to include online and ROKU Channels
- Instructs students in the principles and practices of professional set conduct
- Handles requests for public service announcements, production, and programming to be transmitted via all TV networks
- Organizes opportunities to showcase student work through public screenings and via the internet.
Working hours: Monday-Friday 1:30pm-6:30pm. 25-30 hours a week. No paid holidays.
