The Mortgage Lending Manager manages a team of mortgage loan officers in developing member relationships, promoting mortgage loan products and other credit unions products and services. This manager will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the mortgage team from pipeline management, assisting with complex files, coaching and training staff. This position will also collaborate with our mortgage loan operations manager to create efficiencies and streamline lending processes. This leader will be responsible for working on compliance and regulations with the loan operations manager to comply with changing regulations that impact the mortgage loan officers. This person will be responsible for collaborating with other departments to help create organizational growth, efficiencies, and best member service.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of mortgage loan officers to build mortgage loans, deposits and other credit union products and services.
- Manage goal production activities to achieve credit union’s strategic growth through referrals and other opportunities.
- Direct the flow of loans and workload among mortgage lending staff members.
- Maintain a strong understanding of the credit union’s policies, procedures and services and works with other departments for any changes in regulations and or policies & procedures needed to run in an operationally sound manner.
- Maintain an active NMLS number per SAFE Act requirements with WCCU.
- Maintain a mortgage loan portfolio through strong relationships skills and must be able to negotiate and structure loans to meet the borrower’s needs while adhering to loan regulations.
- Assist members and potential members with loan questions, rates, products, and programs. Document all contacts made, solutions offered, and time frames established.
- Originate and underwrite mortgages when needed which may include origination interview, counsel, and assist applicants through the mortgage process.
- Communicates and works with other departments such as marketing and retail for mortgage lending growth, marketing promotions within the credit union to collaborate growth between departments.
- Monitor collection activities related to real estate loans in conjunction with the Member Solutions/Risk Department. Review delinquencies and may need to assist with determinations for the past due condition and success or default planning.
- Serve as the primary or backup software administrator for origination software, servicing software, and various websites relating to mortgage production, operations, and servicing for the department. Keep mortgage website up to date with design and content.
- Prepare, respond to, and train staff on various audit findings from investors, third party auditors, examiners, and internal audit.
- Responsible for reviewing and helping implement any projects relating to Mortgage Loan Department.
- Prepare annual Budget, reports/reviews, and investor annual filings.
- Attend and participate in various Credit Union committees and meetings as requested or assigned.
- Solicit real estate loan business through Credit Union sponsored and personal marketing activities with real estate offices and builders. Represent the Credit Union in various business, trade, charity, civic, and social organizations to support the community and provide for positive public relations. Develop

Managerial Responsibilities:
- Supervises and coordinates activities of employees in engaged in the credit union’s mortgage lending functions.
- Observes and evaluates the performance of staff along with completion of the performance appraisals. Also provides continuous feedback and reinforcement of policies and procedures.
- Travel to branch locations to work with staff for training purposes as well as following procedures & remaining compliant with regulatory updates.
- Plans, prepares, and schedules staff, according to budgets and workloads to maintain proper staffing & ensure smooth daily operations.
- Maintains a highly motivated, well-trained staff and establishes effective employee relations.
- In cooperation with your leader (and in consultation with Human Resources), take responsibility for hiring, training, coaching, and discharging of staff.
- Welcomes new staff members to the department.
- Ensures each staff member receives proper orientation, training, coaching, and cross-training to ensure quality service.
- Communicates with other departments and management to resolve problems and expedite work.
- Interprets and communicates work procedures and company policies to staff.
- Resolves complaints and answers questions of others regarding services and procedures.
- Develops & maintains constructive and cooperative working relationships with others.
- Reviews and checks work of staff for accuracy and content. Provides additional training, where needed.
- Makes recommendations to management concerning staff and improvement of procedures.
- Requisitions supplies as needed for the department.
- Assists staff in handling complex situations.
- Schedules regular department staff meetings.
- Ensures that the appearance of the department is neat, organized, and in accordance with Credit Union policy.
- Ensures that all confidential records in the work area are properly secured each day.
Working Relationships and Scope:Reports directly to the Vice President of Consumer Lending. As a Manager of the Credit Union, has certain oversight, check cashing approval, and security responsibility. Works closely with other Mortgage Operations Manager, Mortgage Loan Underwriters, Mortgage Processors, Mortgage Servicing and all departments of the WCCU regarding work performed. Also has contact with investors, vendors, credit bureaus, real estate agencies, builders, regulators, government agencies, and other outside parties relating to loans. A certain level of community involvement is expected in this position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
- Five years of previous real estate lending and management experience preferred.
- Individual must have exceptional understanding of loan application and documentation procedures.
Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations and understand interest rate computations.
- Ability to retrieve and input information into loan and credit bureau programs.
- Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive data relating to members and provide a strong sense of attention to detail.
- Ability to interact professionally with a wide range of personalities, including dealing effectively with difficult members.
- Proficient operation of a variety of general office equipment such as PC, software applications, telephone, copy machine, fax machine and other similar devices or programs.
- Must have comprehension of financial and operation requirements of the Credit Union.
- Must maintain a professional demeanor and appearance.
- Must have superb interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
- Must maintain awareness of federal and state laws regarding depositor and lending practices.
- Must be able to compose correspondence and reports.
