National Director, Thought Leader Liaison (Tll) (Remote)
LOCATION
Remote, with travel expected up to 75% based on business needs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree required, experience in biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry, nephrology experience, and a minimum of 10 years in relevant fields including field sales, marketing, or medical experience. Preferred: advanced degree and rare disease experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the National TLL team, engage with KOLs, develop KOL engagement strategies, execute speaker training, manage congress strategies, gather insights, create local market plans, and oversee brand marketing initiatives and team management.

SHORT DESCRIPTION
The National Director, TLL, Renal Rare Disease will lead a team to improve interactions with key opinion leaders in the renal community, enhance KOL engagement, and align strategies across departments for the upcoming launch of a new product in renal rare diseases.
- Drive pre-launch commercial engagement with KOL community
- Identify and profiling KOLs within the Renal Rare Disease community
- Engage with KOLs on various disease state education topics
- Ensure strong commercial relationships with KOLs
- Nurture and grow KOL relationships
- Engage with KOLs on various disease state and product related topics
- Collaborate and coordinate closely with field sales and marketing to identify partnering opportunities with KOLs
- Proactively seek out and cultivate relationships with new KOLs who can help to expand the reach of education related to Renal Rare Disease
- Assess and move levels of advocacy amongst KOL customer base
- Work with field partners to identify and vet qualified promotional speakers that align with overall needs of the brand. Develop and refine criteria for selecting promotional speakers to ensure they are effective brand advocates
- Coordinate and execute speaker bureau training and coaching, continuously assessing opportunities to improve the clarity and impact of communications
- Collaborate with brand marketing to develop a comprehensive Congress Strategy that aligns and supports key strategic imperatives
- Plan and execute KOL engagements, advocacy engagements, and senior executive encounters at local, regional and national conferences, POAs in field engagements, and other venues as directed
- Present at conferences and identify sponsorship opportunities when appropriate
- Manage sponsorship budget in conjunction with brand marketing and field sales
- Actively collect, analyze, and synthesize information on KOL sentiments, competitor activities, and broader market trends from diverse sources (1:1 meetings, advisory boards, congresses). Continuously monitor the competitive landscape and identify emerging trends to inform strategic planning and decision-making
- Leverage insights to implement regional cross-functional account strategy and KOL engagement plan in partnership with the brand team and field partners (MSLs and sales representatives)
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the healthcare landscape, including key accounts, stakeholders, and influencers to inform targeted engagement strategies
- Ensure strong partnerships with key ecosystem partners and support both the development and execution of local business plans
- Collaborate with field sales and medical teams to plan and execute KOL engagements and executive encounters at local, regional and national conferences, POAs, in field engagements, and other venues in a complaint manner
- Work with targeted KOLs to obtain feedback on disease and brand-related marketing strategies/materials
- Act as a liaison between KOLs and home office cross-functional teams, primarily for commercial/marketing encounter (other executive encounters as requested)
- Lead various KOL-involved marketing projects as needed, including resource development through the legal, regulatory, medical review process
- Support development of the annual brand franchise plan and provide feedback on various topics as requested
- Recruit, hire and manage a team of TLLs
- Define and monitor team effectiveness metrics / KPIs
- Develop and manage TLL team budget
- Ensure strong culture of compliance to include fair-balanced, and effective message delivery within all promotional education channels (i.e., speaker programs, product theaters, exhibitor spotlights, etc.)
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Experience in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry
- Nephrology experience
- Experience in leading a team of direct reports
- A minimum of ten (10) years of work experience in one or more of the following: field sales, thought leader liaison, product marketing, or medical / clinical experience in the same or related therapeutic area within the pharmaceutical / biotech industry
- Advanced degree
- Rare Disease experience a big plus
- Deep understanding of people and possess an ability to build mutually beneficial relationships
- Ability to assemble and lead cross-functional teams toward a shared vision of success
- Ability to present ideas effectively to individuals or groups, targeting presentation to the needs of the audience
- Strong communication and organizational skills
