Job Duties
The Associate Athletics Director is responsible for Responsible for, but not limited, to oversight of athletics revenue generation, marketing, communications, promotions, gameday experience, athletics ticket sales, corporate partnerships, licensing, and branding with a focus on the Norfolk community and surrounding regions.
The Associate Athletic Director for External Relations will take a comprehensive and innovative approach to maximizing existing revenue streams while pursuing and unlocking potential new avenues and opportunities across multiple revenue producing sources to better support our student-athletes. This will be accomplished through strategic vision and leadership in revenue generation, successful negotiation of contracts, strategic planning, goal setting, fundraising, community engagement and sport program oversight. Reporting to the Director of Athletics, responsibilities include the development and oversight of Norfolk State Athletics external revenue generation including Athletics Ticketing, Sports Marketing, Promotions, Athletic Communications, Creative Services, and Video Production. In addition, this position will have oversight of externally related business functions including communications, licensing, branding, special events and management of the department’s partnerships regarding corporate sponsorship activations. This position will serve as a member of the Athletics senior staff while serving as a liaison to university partners including the Office of Strategic Marketing and Communication, Norfolk State University Foundation, and the Norfolk State University Alumni Association and Athletics Foundation.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with NSU, Commonwealth of Virginia, NCAA and MEAC rules, regulations and policies.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree required with at least five years of experience in a revenue- generation role, with experience in corporate sponsorship, partnership development, with a proven ability to implement strategies that drive successful revenue growth.
- In addition to sport oversight. Additional experience required includes creating standard operating procedures and manuals, experience in Division I collegiate athletics with football, and excellent oral and written communication skills. A successful criminal background check is required.

Minimum eight years’ experience in athletics administration; DI athletics program; Division I athletics program with football.
