SHORT DESCRIPTION

Seeking an Operations Director to enhance operational effectiveness and support the mission of Oakland Natives Give Back by empowering young people and improving educational equity.

Position Overview

Oakland Natives Give Back (ONGB) is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Operations Director (OD) to oversee the organization's and program's operational infrastructure, compliance, human resources, and marketing functions. This leadership role will ensure the seamless functioning of ONGB’s programs and administrative systems, positioning the organization for sustainable growth. The Operations Director will play a critical role in supporting ONGB’s mission to empower young people and improve educational equity.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning and Thought Leadership

  • Collaborate with CEO, Staff and Board in creating and implementing ONGB’s multi-year Strategic Plan and Annual Operating Plans. Ensure a process to track results (metrics and milestones met) on stated Program goals for internal feedback and to share with Board and/ or Donors when/as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with CEO and staff on California Expansion; and in national, state and local relationship building to increase ONGB’s visibility and ensure strategic programmatic growth.
  • Contribute to ONGB’s overall strategic visioning, conceptual development and planning.
  • Increase ONGB’s profile at significant events and meetings, or as requested by CEO. Serve as a visible and influential thought leader on race, gender equity, and the safety and well- being of young people and their families.
  • Partner with the CEO and leadership team to drive organizational growth and long-term planning.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for operational improvement and cost savings.
  • Act as a thought leader, bringing innovative solutions to complex challenges.

The OD oversees ONGB’s overall program operations including

  • Develop and implement strategies that maximize synergies among and across Program areas.
  • Innovate upon, strengthen and grow ONGB’s overall Program through management of direct reports and consultants
  • Innovate upon, strengthen and grow ONGB’s overall Program through management of direct reports
  • Ensure programmatic excellence through the implementation of innovative performance and outcome measures; and high quality evaluation of ONGB Programs
  • Liaise and coordinate externally with key school districts and school site leadership
  • Liaise and coordinate with mental health professionals at the city, county and state levels
  • Oversee management of programmatic budgets to ensure effective and compliant use of grant and contract funds. Work with the ONGB team to provide timely and accurate reports and communications to funders.

Operations Management

  • Oversee daily operations, ensure and monitor implementation of operationa\]' effectiveness strategies and alignment with ONGB’s strategic goals.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain systems and processes to streamline operations and increase productivity.
  • Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and organizational resources to ensure cost-effectiveness.
  • Supervise and support the operational aspects of ONGB’s program implementation, collaborating with program staff as needed.

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Day-to-day compliance and operational risk management, while the COOE handles higher-level compliance strategy and reporting to external funders.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to maintain legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Serve as the point of contact for audits, legal matters, and compliance-related inquiries.

Human Resources

  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, and performance management processes for staff and contractors.
  • Develop and maintain a supportive organizational culture, prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Provide direct supervision for director and coordinator level staff
  • Oversee payroll, benefits administration, and employee relations.
  • Create and implement professional development and training plans for staff growth.

Marketing and Communications

  • Supervise marketing and communications strategies to amplify ONGB’s brand and mission.
  • Oversee the development and execution of marketing campaigns, newsletters, and social media outreach.
  • Collaborate with communications consultants to align messaging with fundraising and community engagement goals.

Financial Oversight

  • Collaborate with the finance coordinator, accountant and grant team to develop and manage the annual budget.
  • Ensure grant funds are allocated and utilized in alignment with donor and organizational expectations.
  • Provide operational support for grant reporting and financial audits.

Selection Criteria:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Mental health background is highly desired.
  • At least 7 years of experience in operations management, preferably within a nonprofit organization.
  • Demonstrated success in managing multiple functional areas, including HR, compliance, and marketing.

Skills and Competencies

  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience implementing systems and processes to improve operational efficiency.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships with staff, vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with tools like Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Airtable).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
