QUALIFICATIONS
2+ years as a product or packaging developer in consumer product goods, Bachelor's or Master's in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Join Clorox as a Scientist Packaging Developer in R&D, focusing on the technical development of innovative cat litter products while ensuring quality and sustainability standards are met.

The Litter Division at Clorox sells 3 main brands of Cat Litter, Fresh Step, Scoop Away, and Ever Clean, to consumers through various channels from brick & mortar to eCommerce
Within Research and Development (R&D), we touch all stages of the innovation cycle to create new products as well as partnering with our plants and co-packers to ensure they are making high quality product that matches our claims in market and meets the needs of consumers and their cats.
As a Scientist Packaging Developer in R&D, you will be a part of a team responsible for the technical development of new cat litter products. You will work in close partnership with Marketing, Sales, Product Supply and Regulatory to develop new products from concept to launch, using technical leadership to deliver on end-user insights through claims on product performance.
From the development of prototypes for cost savings efforts to delivering of new/improved packages with sustainability in mind, you will play a significant role in driving innovation in products for the Litter Division.
Location is Pleasanton, CA, relocation assistance will be offered.
- New Product Commercialization - Lead, design and execute project work, leveraging network of internal experts, external suppliers, consumer understanding, and packaging knowledge to drive technical solutions that deliver on project requirements.
- Brand Health & Maintenance - Serve as a packaging resource to maintain newly launched products in Litter. Identify improvement/optimization opportunities within each of our products with a prioritization on improving cost structure, sustainability, manufacturing & supply efficiency, and consumer experience.
- Competitive and Industry Knowledge Building - Develop the capability necessary to understand the landscape, evaluate and test new packaging driving constant improvement in Clorox’s capability in the Litter packaging space. This includes a robust competitive understanding, keeping abreast with potential technologies in these areas. Identify opportunities for modeling and simulation to enable in silico development rather than traditional physical testing. Leverage suppliers and external resources when possible to enable virtual scale.
- Data Management - Be a Litter R&D team expert on critical systems and processes tied to data management (e.g. SAP). Develop a strong connections with other critical partners inside and outside of Clorox to ensure quality data entry and knowledge management.
- Sustainability - Develop and maintain a strong connection to the Clorox Sustainability team, bringing expertise and guidance on how to ensure the Litter BU does it’s part to achieve the 2025 and 2030 corporate goals tied to virgin plastic reduction, inclusion of more PCR, and achieving 100% RRC.
- Continual Improvement of Self - As a developmental position, continue to grow your professional skill set to further enhance your capabilities, increase your organizational impact, demonstrating the ability to work on increasingly complex and ambiguous projects, identifying actionable solutions to deliver on business and consumer needs.
- 2+ years as a product or packaging developer in consumer product goods companies or applicable field
- Ability to work independently and implement multiple projects in a timely manner
- Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills to work in a collaborative team environment, both internal and external to Clorox
- Ability to co-develop with external suppliers and packaging partners as part of Joint Development agreements and/or Service agreements
- Bachelors or Masters in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering, Chemical Engineering or time in applicable role(s) after college
