SHORT DESCRIPTION
Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP is seeking an experienced Paralegal Manager to lead the paralegal program and ensure effective legal support across its California offices.
This position can be based in any of our California offices. The offices are as follows: Century City, Downtown Los Angeles, Orange County, Downtown San Diego, Del Mar, San Francisco, and Silicon Valley. There is only one opening.
The Paralegal Manager is responsible for effectively managing all aspects of the Firm’s paraprofessional program and supervising the Firm’s paraprofessional team. Acting as the primary liaison for attorneys and paralegals, this position manages project assignments and workload distribution to ensure exceptional support for both internal and external client support. Key responsibilities include driving the Firm’s strategic direction, managing recruitment, onboarding, integration, training and development, performance management and compensation, utilization, and work allocation for the Firm’s paraprofessional team.
The Paralegal Manager position reports to the Chief Administrative Officer and the Regional Director of Administration.
- Direct and oversee the Firm's paralegals, providing leadership and guidance to ensure the effective execution of legal support services and workflow efficiency.
- Partners with Office Administrators, Managers, and Team Leads to strategically manage the team of paralegals, ensuring optimal resource allocation and coverage across all offices.

Collaborate with attorneys to coordinate paralegal workflow, case management, trial preparation, document production, and other essential legal processes.
- Strategize with leadership to continuously develop and curate Firm and office culture to ensure the environment is a diverse, inclusive, engaging, and excellent place to work.
- Assist in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and training new paralegals.
Responsible for the management of all paralegal staff firmwide.
Qualifications and Experience
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive management experience with proven leadership and management skills as a Paralegal Manager or similar leadership role in a law firm, legal department, or other legal professional services industry.
- Substantial and relevant work experience.
- Strong understanding of legal processes, case management, and litigation support
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize assignments, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent administrative and organizational skills with proven ability to produce results and meet deadlines.
- Ability to interact and communicate with all levels of professionals, management and staff, demonstrating the ability to elicit cooperation, teamwork and service in a fast-paced environment.
- Fundamental knowledge and experience managing operational departments such as marketing, finance, human resources, technology, facilities, etc.
- Ability to identify issues, develop recommendations, and implement solutions.
- Possess special and practical knowledge of case management software and legal research tools.
Education
A Bachelor’s Degree is required for this position and Paralegal Certification is preferred.
Computer/Software Knowledge
Proficiency in legal research tools, case management software, and Microsoft Office Suite of Programs.
Work Environment
- The current Firm policy is hybrid–working in the office 3 days per week minimum, working from home the rest of the week (subject to change).
- After-hours and weekend work will be required on occasion as the workload requires.
Travel Requirements
Up to 10%. Minimal domestic travel is required for meetings, retreats, and conferences (as needed).
