POSITION SUMMARY: The Post Baccalaureate Fellow for Educational Outreach works jointly with the Draper Center’s Assistant Director for Educational Outreach, Draper Center staff, Pomona College faculty and community leaders to maintain current educational outreach programming. The Fellow supports a robust and ongoing Draper Center educational outreach program, including the Pomona College Academy for Youth Success, Pomona Partners, LINC, K-12 campus visitations and/or a program of the Fellow’s choice. In collaboration with other staff, this position is responsible for the direction and oversight of one or more student employees and all of the activities and services provided by them in the Draper Center.
Reporting directly to the Assistant Director for Educational Outreach at the Draper Center, the Post-Baccalaureate Fellow for Educational Outreach performs the following essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to implement the Draper Center mission and vision at Pomona College.
  • Coordinate and administer various programs including the Pomona College Academy for Youth Success, Pomona Partners, Learning IN Collaboration, as well as K-12 campus visits, working closely with the Assistant Director, Educational Outreach.
  • Provide clear direction and oversight of all department activities relating to student employees in order to develop and achieve annual goals. Responsible for monitoring and evaluating student employees, including performance and daily assignments and the administration of required personnel paperwork. Maintain an efficient, collegial, and proactive work environment within the Draper Center and collaborating departments.
  • Collaborate with the Post Baccalaureate Fellow, Community Engagement with daily tasks at the Draper Center, including, but not limited to:
  • Planning and facilitating leadership training and development for current Draper Center student coordinators.
  • Updating and maintaining our Draper Center Student Coordinator Handbook
  • Implementing and coordinating the Draper Center’s yearly Spirit Statement.
  • Supporting and leading a Draper Center committee.
  • Hosting Community Building Events/Socials for the Draper Center student coordinators.
  • Update and promote Draper Center activities and events on various social media platforms.
  • Support the Assistant Director for Educational Outreach and PAYS Coordinator with PAYS including but not limited to:
  • Developing the academic year programming for PAYS working closely with the Assistant Director, Educational Outreach.
  • Supporting the PAYS Coordinator in presenting at information sessions held at various high schools.
  • Recruiting, training, and advising college students to work with the summer and academic year PAYS program, in collaboration with the Assistant Director for Educational Outreach, PAYS Coordinator, and other Draper Center staff and faculty.
d. Plan and facilitate leadership training and development for PAYS participants.
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate LiveScan background check services for all programs at the Draper Center for student coordinators and volunteers.
  • Support development of assessment tools for programs evaluations including surveys and qualitative research.
  • Support the experience of the Orientation Adventure (OA) program.
  • Support data collection and record keeping for educational outreach programming.
  • Support an additional educational outreach program based on the Fellow’s interest, expertise and programs needs
  • Drive the College’s van shuttle to take students to school sites, community center, and or any other locations asked by the Assistant Director for Educational Outreach to do volunteer work on occasion.
  • Perform clerical tasks needed for the execution of various programs.
  • Coordinate special projects/tasks and provide assistance as assigned.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in education, communications, marketing, journalism, business administration, a liberal arts field, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A recent Pomona College alumnus or PAYS alumnus who has graduated within 3 years of their application is preferred. A valid driver’s license is required or equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events. A demonstrated commitment to the Draper Center’s mission, community engagement and/or social justice issues with some understanding of the theory and practice of community-based programs and projects are required. A Bilingual Spanish speaker is preferred.
ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS: This is a temporary, full-time, benefit-eligible, non-exempt position. The salary for this role is between $24.00 - $25.00 per hour, with a competitive benefits package. The specific factors that the organization will consider when offering a salary to an individual will include education, training, prior experience, and performance in prior role. All staff positions are ineligible for visa or permanent resident card sponsorship. As a California employer, Pomona College requires all employees to be residents of California.
REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours will be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division.
