Position Description:

The Program Manager II will lead the strategic and tactical marketing and communications initiatives for the McConnell Center. This position will design, implement, and report on the Center's communications initiatives with internal and external stakeholders including maintaining a digital presence for the Center.

The Program Manager II will work and collaborate with the Director, McConnell Center and other team members to design and coordinate the academic and programmatic endeavors of the McConnell Scholars. This position will also work with the Director on special projects, event coordination, student recruitment, reporting and fundraising.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Management (60%):
  • Design and develop student educational programs in cooperation with the Director
  • Evaluate current programming and make recommendations to Director
  • Teach seminars and give lectures commensurate with own academic background
  • Plan and organize McConnell Center Events including recruiting academic experts and coordinating schedules with students, faculty, and guests
  • Monitor and manage student success within the McConnell Scholars program
  • Mentor Scholars toward academic success, as necessary
  • Design educational initiatives related to health and wellness
  • Implement recruitment strategies, efforts, and conduct student interviews for new McConnell Scholars
  • Manage special projects and events as directed by the Center Director
  • Represent the Center and Director at meetings on campus and in the community
Communications and Public Relations (40%):
  • Design, implement, and direct strategic marketing and communications goals and initiatives for the Center
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including the Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM).
  • Analyze and assess success of communications and marketing initiatives, making necessary process improvements to ensure overall successful brand management for the McConnell Center
  • Create and maintain Center webpage and digital presence including, but not limited to, the Center's YouTube channel and podcasting enterprises
  • Produce press releases and news articles for the McConnell Center on all programmatic initiatives
  • Manage student blogs
  • Produce Center marketing materials including doing graphic design and content writing
  • Write and distribute newsletters
  • Collaborate with Director in grant writing efforts
  • Consult with Director in strategic communication with Board of Advisors
Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience working in a Public Relations related position, experience working in higher education, experience being an honors student or working in a scholarship program for top undergraduates. Experience recruiting students to programs and/or connecting with alumni of a program would be vey helpful as would an interest and knowledge of American politics, political thought, literature and philosophy.

Candidate should be well-organized and able to handle multiple projects at once. They should have experience in drafting communications materials, including social media posts, publicity releases, and organizational newsletters. They should also have experience dealing with a large database of newsletter subscribers. A strong portfolio of writing and non-personal social media posts required along with examples of professional graphic design work. An ability to conceptualize educational programs dealing with big philosophical and historical concepts required.
