RESPONSIBILITIES

PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST
The Reno Housing Authority is seeking a Public Affairs Specialist to join our Government Relations & Public Affairs team that is passionate about the quality of their work. As the Public Affairs Specialist you will support RHA’s public affairs efforts by developing/creating engaging story telling components using copy, images, graphics, video and audio, etc. Preparing and sharing stories via social media, collateral, events, newsletters, and presentations. Participate in the development and implementation of the RHA strategic communication plan. Examples of some of the positions’ essential duties are:
- Serves as a social media expert within RHA, maintaining a well-rounded understanding of public affairs best practices, features, strategies and tactics.
- Design and execute initiatives to increase the Housing Authorities brand resonance.
- Effectively and efficiently support campaign launches and overall brand awareness via multiple mediums.
- Assist with monitoring of news and social media.
- Work across the agency to explore and identify ways to leverage social media to drive awareness, advocacy, and intent of the brand. Align content with marketing, creative development, and messaging.
- Gather and monitor engagement statistics across social media platforms in order to enhance presence, reach and impact.
- Building strong communication relationships and support networks with RHA community partners.
- Assists with PR writing, media relations, and creating reports and other collateral materials.
- Participate in the preparation and presentation of reports to senior leaders and board of commissioners.
- Research trends in social media, design tools, and applications to remain up to-date.
- Maintains RHA social media management standards, policies, and rules of engagement.

WHAT IS NEEDED?
The minimum qualifications needed for this position are:
- High School diploma or equivalent AND
- Minimum of one (1) year of public relations and/or marketing experience, including social media or influencer marketing OR completion of two (2) years of college courses towards a bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, advertising, journalism, graphic design, or related field AND
- Experience using social media actively in a work/community/study context; Using Canva, Microsoft Publisher, Adobe InDesign and/or Photoshop; Applying the Associated Press Stylebook OR
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work as determined by Human Resources.
