Under general direction the Recreation Specialist plans promotes and manages recreational activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent
- Bachelor’s degree in recreation or closely related field preferred
- Have a valid State of Illinois driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
REQUIREMENTS
- Hours will be flexible dependent upon activities and season; but the applicant must be willing to work evenings and weekends
- The ideal candidate is someone looking to grow into a leadership position within the Recreation Department at the Village of Rantoul
- If not already; must be willing to become CPR/First Aid/ Bloodborne Pathogen certified within 30 days of being hired by the Village of Rantoul
- Must possess excellent customer service skills and attitude
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION OF THE JOB
- Follow all Village of Rantoul safety policies and perform all work in a manner that ensures safety to the public; employees; and themselves
- Plans; organizes; and promotes recreation programs for various age groups including such programs as youth baseball/softball; basketball; soccer; flag football; wiffle ball; adult softball; volleyball; pickleball; senior trips; leisure arts and activities classes; aquatic activities; after school and pre-school programs; summer day camps; and other activities; arranges schedules; locations; and personnel to staff such activities
- Plans; markets; coordinates; and executes ongoing festivals and new special events as assigned
- Develop; coordinate; and implement marketing initiatives; promotes programs; events; and festivals; contacts media and makes personal appearances before civic and business groups; prepares press release; flyers; brochures for promotions
- Recruits; hires; trains; assigns; and supervises volunteers and paid staff; reviews and assures standards and requirements are being met
- Registers participants for various recreational programs and events; collects fees and completes proper forms; maintains various records of events; schedules times and secures locations for a variety of programs; events; and festivals
- Maintain comprehensive record of program and event expenditures through reports and keeping an up-to-date inventory of supplies. Assists with preparing an annual budget as it relates to programs; events; and festivals
- Assists in the oversight of operations of the community centers; including program set-up and cleaning; and compliance with Village policies; monitors and assures clean and neat appearance of the centers
- Assists in the formulation and execution of departmental rules and policies
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
