SHORT DESCRIPTION

Seeking a Recycling Education and Outreach Coordinator to promote recycling and waste reduction through educational programs and community partnerships for the Orange County Solid Waste Management Department.

General Description

The Orange County Solid Waste Management Department has an opening for a Recycling Education and Outreach Coordinator.
An employee in this class is responsible for assisting with the development, maintenance and implementation of an education and outreach program about recycling, composting and other Solid Waste topics. This includes the responsibility of promoting proper waste management and waste reduction practices by coordinating and providing education and outreach services to county departments, community partners and residents regarding County recycling programs and operations. Also, an employee in this class is responsible for publicizing recycling and waste reduction activities.

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Research and Data Manager with considerable leeway for independent judgement within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work. Supervision over others is not required of this position.
Employee performs related work as required or requested, including some weekend work during events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from a regionally accredited or registered college or university with a bachelor’s degree in education, environmental science, natural resources, marketing, or a related field and one (1) year of work experience in providing solid waste management or recycling outreach and educational services to communities; OR

An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above. A higher degree does not substitute for work experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

This work requires some weeknights and weekend working hours.

All offers of employment are conditioned upon successful clearance of a background check. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared.
