The Crump Group Inc., a large & rapidly growing pet food manufacturer with facilities in Nashville, North Carolina and Mississauga, Ontario. We are seeking a dynamic, results oriented Research & Development (R&D) Scientist.

Job Overview

We are looking for a qualified individual to spearhead R&D efforts in our North Carolina Facility. We are looking for someone who can independently manage projects, problem solve, and think outside the box. This a new role for our North Carolina facility, and the individual will report directly to the R&D Director (based in our Ontario facility).

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the formulation of new products through our gated product development process– researching ingredients, conducting pilot testing, coordinating and running plant trials, and bringing our visions to life!
  • Responsible for organizing, leading and conducting new product plant trials.
  • Set up production standard operating procedures (SOPs) for new and current products.
  • Initiate and lead process improvement projects for processing, baking, and packaging, to align to our company’s continuous improvement goals.
  • Work in collaboration with the R&D, Manufacturing and Quality teams to ensure new product implementation and scale up runs smoothly.
  • Support Regulatory and QA initiatives to assure all specifications (formulation, labelling) are accurately developed and compliant with regulations (FDA, AAFCO).
  • Maintain accurate records of all technical work and documentation.
  • Support overall timeline development and project management initiatives.

Experience Requirements

  • Ideally, a minimum of 3 years’ experience in research and development in the manufacturing industry, with a preference for food/pet food.
  • Bachelors’ degree or higher, in Food Science, Food Engineering or similar.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities at once while finding efficiencies in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross functional partners from several departments in the organization.
  • Experienced with Microsoft software including Excel, Word, and related software

Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
