QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, economics, finance, business administration, or related field; two or more years of progressive related experience in Risk Compliance or as an Accountant; strong analytical, negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.

SHORT DESCRIPTION
The Risk Compliance Accountant plays a key role in risk identification and compliance oversight for the organization, ensuring that all transactions meet regulatory requirements while supporting various departments in financial management and reporting.
The Risk Compliance Accountant is responsible for identifying, measuring, monitoring and reporting risks to management. Provides oversight and analysis for all transactions both physical and financial commodity transactions, as well as developing specific risk and compliance policy recommendations. Middle Office personnel have no transactional authority.
This position also provides support to Finance department management and staff, throughput management, marketing, gas logistics, financial planning and forecasting, regulatory, operations, measurement and environmental.
Monitor the transaction activities (physical and financial), based on defined limits in the policy. Analyze and record physical flow and financial information relating to Northern Natural Gas and Kern River Gas Transmission pipeline monthly operations.
Responsible for monitoring commodity transactions and trading activities to ensure adherence to BHE Energy Pipeline Group Risk Management Policy, as well as compliance with regulatory laws and regulations to include, but not limited to, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Dodd-Frank Act, and Sarbanes Oxley. Record North American Energy Standards Board (NAESB) physical commodity transactions and International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) financial commodity transactions into pricing and storage databases.
Maintain accurate and timely records of NAESB and ISDA transactions and contract administration.
Ensure that transactions adhere to the Berkshire Hathaway Energy Pipeline Group Risk Management Policy.
This position will become the expert in the Risk Management Policy.
Monitor the transaction activities (physical and financial), based on the defined limits as authorized by the Risk Oversight Committee (ROC).
Address and resolve any noncompliance events. Perform contract administration of deal tickets and confirmations.
Ownership of shared mailboxes for daily for confirmations, deal tickets and other correspondence.
Work with Pricing and Storage Department to prepare the annual FERC Operational Gas Purchases and Sales report, management reports, and ad hoc reports.
Provide analytical support to storage and pricing department regarding market/revenue analysis.
Provide technical leadership to staff. Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning.
Prepare, audit and record to general ledger transport revenue, fuel used/retained and perform variance analysis for internal management.
Analyze and evaluate the accounts relating to those activities.
Must be able to manage data within a database environment in support of the physical flow of gas.
Work with data warehouse to extract information in support of the general ledger and regulatory/financial business requirements.
Prepare and reconcile detail between Oracle G/L and the database. Assist personnel on customer accounts.
Act as a resource for accountants in reviewing work.
Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, economics, finance, business administration, or related field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically, six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor’s degree.)
Two or more years’ of progressive related experience – Risk Compliance Analyst level/Accountant.
Effective negotiation, oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills in order to recognize and resolve problems in a timely manner.
Perform responsibilities as directed within determined time frames and with a high degree of accuracy.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently with short or long-term deadlines.
Good leadership/initiative skills. Ability to work within a team environment with some members in separate locations. Support the company’s employee policies and procedures, including workplace safety rules.
