Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Earth, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, Education, Marketing, Communications, or a related field; plus two years of relevant experience, including teaching, creating educational materials, and direct environmental work, or a combination of education and experience.

Responsible for creating and implementing engaging educational programs to promote the City of Denton's waste minimization and resource conservation goals through community and school collaborations.

DUTIES
- Develop informal and formal community educational programming and marketing strategies that are in line with the goals and objectives of the City of Denton’s Strategic Plans, including but not limited to solid waste and recycling and related sustainability programs.
- Coordinate implementation of comprehensive sustainability educational programming and training and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enhance and promote the program.
- Evaluate, update, and provide on-site tours of the Materials Recovery Facility and City of Denton Landfill, as needed.
- Perform routine site visits, container audits, inspections, tracking and reporting issues and concerns.
- Design and maintain inventory of educational, and promotional materials that are within budget; assist with the creation of operational materials for division, as needed.
- Collect and track program data, monitor performance, and report program performance data through a variety of avenues.
- Research and evaluate successful educational programs throughout the country and stay up to date on the latest technology and information related to solid waste and recycling education; provide recommendations and implement program improvements for the City of Denton program.
- Establish and maintain relationships with external stakeholders including, but not limited to, universities, colleges, community programs, Homeowner Association (HOA’s), Multifamily, and Commercial customers to determine educational needs.
- Oversee the Solid Waste and Recycling social media presence on all platforms acquired and approved by the City of Denton and Department.
- Maintain Solid Waste & Recycling website pages, including the Solid Waste & Recycling section of the Denton Green Business Program, to ensure information is up to date, captures the audience interest and is accurate.
- Track and report recycling and sustainability program engagement efforts, including efforts through Solid Waste & Recycling.
- Write speaker proposals, and award and recognition submissions for applications highlighting City of Denton Solid Waste & Recycling program metrics and education efforts.

Job Requirements
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Biology, Earth, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, Education, Marketing, Communication, or related field; and,

Two (2) years’ experience with least one year with:
- Teaching a classroom setting, planning Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)-compliant lessons,
- Proven educational presentation creation and marketing materials for all age groups,
- Direct environmental work, research and/or experience in Solid Waste Recycling Education, Outreach, or Operations, or related field,
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

- Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
- Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check and social security number verification.

- Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. Must be able to work outside normal business hours, as needed. Must be able to work overtime, as needed.
