SHORT DESCRIPTION

Responsible for growing the major and planned giving program at Treasure Coast Hospice by cultivating donor relationships, soliciting donations, and executing strategic fundraising initiatives to support hospice services.

Definition:

Maintains a portfolio of donors who may respond to personal solicitation throughout the year. Responsible for growing the major and planned giving program, to cultivate, solicit and close major current and deferred gifts to ensure the Treasure Coast Hospice can effectively serve our patients and their families. Works alongside the VP of Philanthropy and Foundation Director to assist Foundation Board Members and Committees. Success will be measured on dollars raised and contacts with donors, prospects, and advisors.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required.
  • Three to five years of broad-based experience in fundraising, public relations and communications or relevant background.
  • Special events, Annual Giving, Major Gifts or Planned Giving experience required.
  • CFRE, FAHP or advanced fundraising certification is a plus.
  • Problem solver, high energy, team player, adaptable and assertive.
  • Ability to plan, delegate, manage teams and generate/implement new ideas and innovations.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail a must, as well as a proactive nature with a bias for action.
  • Pleasant telephone manner; customer oriented.
  • Must be able to type at least 40-45 wpm.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software programs (Publisher, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and use of the internet required.
  • Database proficiency in Raiser’s Edge or donor database preferred

Key Result Areas:

  • Maintain a high level of urgency, customer consciousness and service excellence.
  • Manage, grow and steward a portfolio of 125-150 donors/prospects with the ability to secure and formalize major gifts and 6 figure plus planned gifts.
  • Qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward this portfolio, using moves management tools and fundraising best practices to ensure prospects and donors are moving through the appropriate prospect cycle.
  • Conduct weekly face to face visits with Legacy Society members/prospects and major planned gift prospects – approximately 60% planned giving, 40% major/annual donors.
  • Timely document donor contacts in donor management / CRM system following established protocols.
  • Be part of a multi-year strategic plan to increase revenue through marketing of bequests to current TCH donors and prospects. Collaborate with Foundation team to integrate planned giving messaging into marketing strategies and direct mail pieces.
  • Create and design individualized solicitation strategies and identify gift opportunities that match donors’ interests, including planned giving vehicles.
  • Develop written proposals, illustrations, gift agreements, renewal letters, and other donor communications.
  • Develop strategies and execute marketing plans to promote planned gifts among constituents through newsletters, mail, surveys, web, e-mail and print media.
  • Participate in major and planned gift donor events, including planning, execution, and speaking roles, as required.
  • Cultivate relationships with local attorneys, trust officers, accountants, financial planners and other estate planning professionals in order to introduce, educate and engage with the TCH.
  • Serve on the Martin County Estate Planning Counsel including attending monthly dinners, acting as point person for annual symposium and facilitating sponsorship opportunities as they arise.
  • Partner with the Foundation team to create donor proposals, stewardship touches, and other donor materials as required.
  • Provide regular reports on prospect management and fundraising results.
  • Manage the activities of Legacy Society and specific giving programs throughout the year, including special goals for increasing membership.
  • Work with the Foundation Director and the Foundation Database Supervisor to grow the Major and Planned Giving programs through current donor cultivation and stewardship, consistent prospect management, increased Legacy Circle membership, upgrade mid-level donors to the major gift level and engage board members to participate in fundraising activities.
  • Serve as a staff liaison in the following areas: Board Development & Nominating, Investment Committee and Finance Committees.
  • Lead, develop and motivate employees with confidence, energy, integrity and resources.
  • Fulfill responsibilities related to the success of the strategic plan of the organization as requested and assigned.
  • Participate as an active supporter of the Treasure Coast Hospice’s compliance program, including the emphasis to report, as well as complying with all Federal, State and Local laws as well as the organization’s compliance program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Provide program development strategies for Treasure Coast Hospice, in an organized, routine capacity that will enable the cohesion of team developments. Work collaboratively with other departments, demonstrate and encourage leadership for a comprehensive approach to program development. Inspire staff to live the Treasure Coast Hospice’s Mission, to achieve its Vision, and demonstrate our Values and Commitment. Be current in legal and compliance hospice issues.

OSHA Category:

Position will be categorized as category III (involves no routine or potential exposure to blood, body fluids/tissues).

Working Conditions:

  • Typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
  • Sedentary – Exerting up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria met.
  • The work is required to have close visual acuity such as/preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

Incumbent may be required to perform emergency duty before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency, crisis situation or disaster (man-made or natural) including evacuation sites. The person in the position will work in a smoke-free location, and is expected to adhere to all smoking restrictions.
