The Senior Director for Marketing Strategy and Communications for the Division of Student Affairs plays a lead role in developing and implementing effective marketing strategies to achieve the division’s organizational goals and tell a compelling, cohesive story about undergraduate student affairs at WashU. The position involves the use of market research, industry trends, and insights on audience behavior in the development of marketing plans and integrated campaigns that align with the division’s strategic plan. The position requires leading a team on core marketing functions (market research and analysis, marketing/communication strategy development, event marketing, advertising and media planning, digital and social media, and alumni engagement). The position also requires partnering with key stakeholders in the division and across the university. Success in this role is dependent on strategic thinking, a commitment to creativity and problem-solving, effective leadership of a dynamic team, and the ability to cultivate strong partnerships.Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Marketing and Communications
- Conceive, design, develop and supervise production of high-quality division-wide/department publications that deliver consistent, appropriate messages to department’s key constituencies, on time and within budget.
- Oversee the development of internal communications, including publication of monthly newsletters and messages to the student body.
- Oversee the development and writing of external and alumni relations communications, including publication of the division’s annual report and the Vice Chancellor’s messages to broad audiences.
- Oversee website design and content, social media, photography, videography and other multimedia content development.
- Set production schedules.
- Initiate needs assessments and marketing research as required.
- Develop and monitor annual budgets for marketing and communications needs.
- Maintain the university and division’s visual brand. Encourage and facilitate widespread and appropriate use throughout all communication vehicles.
Team Management
- Lead communications and marketing team comprised of individuals with varied backgrounds and skills.
- Hire, manage and develop staff.
- Manage department workload through careful planning and delegation.
- Evaluate staff performance.
Partnership and Collaboration
- In partnership with departmental leadership, craft marketing and communications plans with measurable outcomes for success. Consult with program/department managers to draw on appropriate media, develop targeted marketing communications messages for specific audience segments, and identify opportunities to leverage content through new and traditional media.
- In partnership with Research and Analytics, develop and maintain robust measurement and reporting.
- Collaborate with members of the Student Affairs Leadership Team to plan for the dissemination and communication of information from the Office of the Vice Chancellor to departmental leadership in order to support and promote a culture of informed, data-driven decision-making at all levels.
- Partner with University Marketing & Communications to implement a strategic communications plan to increase the national and international visibility of Student Affairs initiatives and their impact on students in higher education.

$84,200.00 - $148,500.00 / Annually The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.
