Creative Action is a nationally recognized youth arts education organization in Austin, Texas. As the largest provider of creative learning programs in Central Texas, we use the arts as a medium to inspire creativity, unlock potential, and transform the lives of students of all ages. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Creative Action is seeking a Senior Director of Marketing and Communications to lead our efforts in amplifying Creative Action as a leader in arts education. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the organization’s public narrative, building connections with our community while positioning the organization as a leader in arts education on a national level.
As a key member of the leadership team, you will oversee all aspects of marketing and communications, from brand storytelling and digital engagement to media relations and campaign strategy. Key ResponsibilitiesContent Creation, Copywriting & Digital Marketing
- Campaign Strategy: Lead ideation, execution, and management of marketing campaigns to inspire engagement and reflect Creative Action’s mission.
- Copywriting: Develop compelling narratives across digital platforms, email campaigns, press releases, and event materials.Tailor content to diverse audiences, including donors, educators, and the general public.
- Brand Storytelling: Shape and articulate Creative Action’s brand through consistent and engaging messaging across all platforms.
- Website Management: Update, monitor, and maintain the organization’s website to ensure accurate, engaging, and timely content that supports campaigns and enhances audience engagement.
- Fundraising Support: Partner with the Development team to craft donor-focused campaigns, including persuasive and mission-driven appeals.
Strategic Planning & Performance
- Create a comprehensive marketing plan aligned with Creative Action’s mission and organizational goals.
- Utilize data analytics to measure success, optimize strategies, and prepare reports for key stakeholders.
- Manage the marketing budget to prioritize high-impact campaigns and allocate resources effectively.
Team Leadership
- Mentor and lead a dedicated marketing team to success by fostering creativity, accountability, and collaboration.
- Collaborate with cross-departmental teams to align marketing initiatives with organizational needs and goals.
Communications & Media Relations
- Build and maintain media relationships, ensuring consistent and positive coverage.
- Draft press materials and develop messaging for sensitive or crisis communications.
- Executes communications strategies to educate and inform current supporters and new audiences about programs and accomplishments
Event Promotion & General Marketing Support
- Partner with departments to promote events, ensuring alignment with marketing objectives.
- Lead event-related communications and on-site promotional initiatives to compellingly share our story, document impactful moments, and engage our community. This role will occasionally require availability during evenings and weekends.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive photography strategy for events, capturing impactful moments that align with marketing objectives and enhance storytelling efforts.
General Requirements
- Commitment to Social Justice: Actively participate in Creative Action’s social justice initiatives, including regular “Lunch ‘n Learns,” company-wide meetings, and ongoing learning to foster a culture of equity and inclusion.
- Support development events as needed.
- Participate in Creative Action community events.
- Attend all required full-time staff meetings and training sessions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience: 3+ years of progressive experience in marketing, communications, or related fields, ideally within nonprofit or mission-driven organizations.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead and manage teams, inspiring collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
- Digital Marketing Expertise: Proficiency in tools, platforms, and strategies such as SEO, SEM, social media advertising, and email marketing, with strong data analysis capabilities to optimize campaigns.
- Market Analysis and Opportunity Identification: Demonstrated skill in conducting in-depth market analysis and identifying new marketing opportunities.
- Design and Visual Aesthetic: Strong visual aesthetic with an understanding of basic design principles, proficiency in design software, and the ability to create visually compelling marketing materials.
- Content Creation and Social Media: Advanced knowledge of content creation and social media strategy to drive engagement and growth.
- Relationship Building: Experience building media relations and engaging effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Cultural Awareness: Commitment to anti-racism and dismantling bias; experience in social justice-centered work is preferred.
WHAT WE OFFER
Annual salary is $68,000 - $72,000 per year, health plan contributions, life insurance, long-term disability, an employee assistance program and unlimited mental health benefits.
