SHORT DESCRIPTION

The Global Senior Tax Manager will lead the tax strategy and compliance for The IIA and its subsidiaries, focusing on supporting eCommerce growth while ensuring adherence to tax laws locally and internationally.

Summary

The Global Senior Tax Manager will oversee The IIA and its subsidiaries' global tax strategy, compliance, and reporting as the organization expands its global presence. This is a new position that will focus on developing and executing comprehensive global tax strategies to support our legacy domestic activities but will emphasize meeting the challenges of bringing new e-commerce and AI-enabled products to global markets. Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with domestic and international tax regulations, optimizing tax positions, staying ahead of new tax developments and managing risks related to cross-border transactions. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of cross-border eCommerce and operational tax issues, such as sales tax, VAT, GST, Income tax and the international tax laws.

The Global Senior Tax Manager will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to maintain an efficient tax position for the company. This position encompasses all aspects of domestic and global corporate tax planning, compliance, provisioning, and accounting. This includes managing Form 990s, foreign and US federal, state and local tax filings, VAT, GST/HST reporting, income tax reporting, unclaimed property, and more in partnership with external tax consultants as appropriate.

Additionally, this role will ensure The IIA's compliance with all state and local tax collection and reporting requirements. The Global Senior Tax Manager will proactively monitor changes in the taxation landscape and recommend and implement solutions to ensure compliance in all states and countries where the organization operates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tax Strategy Development: Formulate and implement global tax strategies that support the growth of both the eCommerce and traditional business models, while minimizing tax liabilities and risks.
  • Tax Compliance: Responsible for preparation and filing of domestic and global direct and indirect tax returns, ensuring compliance with local, state, federal, and international tax regulations, including but not limited to, income tax, sales tax and VAT.
  • Sales Tax and VAT Issues: Understand the IIA ‘s product catalog and each product’s tax treatment across the globe. Analyze and manage sales tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring accurate collection and remittance. Develop strategies for VAT compliance for international sales.
  • Transfer Pricing: Manage transfer pricing policies and documentation to comply with local regulations and support the eCommerce model. Ensure thorough and defensible documentation.
  • Tax Audits: Manage and respond to tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities. Develop strategies for resolving disputes efficiently and favorably.
  • Policy Development: Create and maintain tax policies and procedures to ensure compliance and improve operational efficiency.
  • Research and Analysis: Stay updated on global tax regulations, trends, and eCommerce-specific issues. Provide insights to management on how changes may impact the business.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with finance, accounting, legal, and business development teams to support strategic initiatives and ensure alignment on tax matters. Advise management about the impact of tax liabilities and corporate strategies or new tax laws.
  • Accurate and timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual tax reports.
  • Coordinate outsourced tax preparation work.

Supervisory Responsibilities

No direct supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Abachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • A master’s degree in taxation, LLM in taxation or an MBA is strongly preferred.
  • Certification: CPA, EA, or equivalent certification is strongly preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience in domestic tax management, with a strong focus on eCommerce and minimum of 5 years on experience in international tax compliance. Experience in a multinational corporation or public accounting firm is a plus.
  • Skills:
  • Strong understanding of eCommerce tax issues, including sales tax, VAT, and international tax compliance.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a detail-oriented mindset.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively interacting with various stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in tax software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with Oracle Net Suite system is preferred.
  • Proficiency in a second language is a plus.

Work Environment:

This position typically operates in an office environment but may require occasional travel for meetings and training. Flexibility in working hours may be necessary to meet global deadlines and collaborate with international teams.
