The Weitz Company is seeking a Senior Project Manager – Owner’s Representative to profitably manage public projects in Fort Lauderdale, FL, ensuring quality standards and stakeholder relationships while leading project teams and maintaining project schedules.

Do you have Owner’s Representative experience working on public projects? The Weitz Company is hiring a Senior Project Manager – Owner’s Representative for Fort Lauderdale, FL. This role is responsible for profitably managing all administrative and field construction activities to quality standards, while maintaining relationships with all stakeholders on assigned projects. This individual will often oversee multiple medium-sized projects, a single large-sized project, or an assigned scope on a single, large, complex project. They will demonstrate leadership by following company standards and policies, achieving shared goals, developing others, and building high morale and commitment.

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide leadership and management direction to project teams to ensure policies, procedures, and processes are followed
  • Understand contract terms, budgets, insurances, bonds and change orders; ensure adherence including work progress being within scope
  • Accept overall responsibility of risk management and mitigation for assigned project(s)
  • Collaborate with project team to execute goals and build high morale
  • Prepare and manage project schedule, identify and address long lead items, update project plan as needed, and review/assign scopes of work
  • Negotiate and execute change orders, subcontracts, and purchase orders
  • Ensure contracts, insurances, bonds, and change orders are intact prior to scope execution
  • Oversee project safety plan and site compliance, review inspections, compliance audits, and the non-conformance log
  • Ensure project teams track material and equipment delivery status, notify project team of any schedule or cost impacts, track request for change
  • Partner with project team during the buyout process and pre-construction efforts
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of monthly project status reports (MPSR), owner billings, and financial risk assessments
  • Ensure projects achieve gross profit goals and finish on time or ahead of schedule
  • Manage subcontractor requests for change and discharge process for subcontractor and owner claims
  • Lead project meetings
  • Participate in marketing and business development initiatives including support of project proposal and presentations
  • Ensure project closeout process is completed on time
  • Resolve disputes among subcontractors, vendors, architects, and owners
  • Initiate and encourage value engineering and scope reduction opportunities
  • Foster positive relationships with individuals throughout the entire construction process including initiating long-term third-party relationships
  • Develop and mentor team members, including delegation of tasks/responsibilities for development, recommend disciplinary action when necessary, delegate job assignments, establish team member goals, and recommend promotions

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience:
    • 7+ years of construction experience required
    • Experience as an Owner’s Representative on public projects required
    • Industry related degree required – an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Skills:
    • Excellent project management skills and commercial construction knowledge
    • Strong business acumen, tact, and relationship building skills
    • Excellent verbal and written communication
    • Ability to make sound judgements and decisions
    • Solid leadership skills and comfortable with conflict resolution
    • Analytical thinker with a high level of initiative
    • Adaptable to meet needs of the business and the client
    • Detail-oriented and highly organized
    • Strong negotiation skills
  • Technology:
    • Experience with project management software
    • Proficient in basic computer software including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
    • Ability to learn specific job-related software upon hire
