JOB PURPOSE:
The Senior Regional Director of Major Gifts – Northeast will serve as the highly visible, knowledgeable, and articulate representative of the Hoover Institution in the Northeast, and/or other markets as assigned by the Director of Major Gifts. The Senior Regional Director will be responsible for providing information about Hoover’s public policy activities and its role in developing and communicating the ideas defining a free society, with the objective of building and cultivating relationships that will produce gifts to the Institution. The Senior Regional Director reports to the Director of Major Gifts and will be responsible for planning and implementing solicitation plans and strategies that will generate financial support for the Hoover Institution and its priorities. The Senior Regional Director will work closely with the Director of Major Gifts, Chief Development Officer, and other institutional colleagues, to identify, develop, and effectively market programmatic efforts that advance Hoover’s research and policy objectives, including developing the funding sources for such efforts.
Frequent travel is expected within the Senior Regional Director’s market, as well as periodic trips to the Hoover Institution.
CORE DUTIES*:
- Play a leadership role in overall institutional fundraising efforts.
- Manage a portfolio of active donors and prospects, with responsibility to cultivate, solicit, and steward their support, leading to gifts of $10,000,000 and above.
- Develop, implement and lead strategic fundraising plan for complex initiatives or program, which may include serving on the senior leadership team of the program. Collaborate with institutional leadership, scholars, and program
- staff to prioritize prospects, prepare background materials, and make and track volunteer assignments,
- Support institutional leaders, fellows and other key representatives in their contact with donors/prospects.
- Advance relationships and solicitations by working with key prospects and donors to identify development opportunities, and devise strategies for involving and soliciting external constituencies.
- Partner with other major gift officers to advise on content and create strategies to advance major gift solicitations.
- Maintain a current body of knowledge about the institution and its research, program initiatives, and development priorities.
- Develop and manage a fundraising plan of action, including creating and managing an event strategy across the market..
- Maintain fluency on Hoover’s research, initiatives, and activities.
- May also supervise staff.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and ten years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

- Ability to develop long-term relationships with donors and prospects
- Demonstrated ability to accurately forecast and deliver results.
- Proven skills in managing several competing priorities and complex issues creatively and effectively. This may include long-range strategic fundraising, donor development, and volunteer engagement with the day-to day operations.
- Proven ability to make independent decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate and engage through highly effective presentations and communication. A clear and confident communication style which shows spirit, enthusiasm, and integrity.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the proven ability to collaborate, build team spirit and achieve results within a diverse population.
- Ability to meet deadlines and function effectively in a complex organizational environment demanding a high energy level, discretion, and flexibility.
- Demonstrate a commitment to promoting and supporting an environment of diversity and inclusion.
Preferred/Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated effectiveness in prospect identification, relationship building, and solicitation.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively with volunteers, top executives, and organizational leadership.
- Superior written and oral communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to articulate a compelling case for philanthropic support programs.
- Demonstrated advanced ability with Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to motivate donors, prospects, colleagues, and volunteers to act for the benefit of Hoover and its mission.
- Ability to relate personally to Hoover’s constituency, most of who are accomplished, often self-made, individuals who have the time and inclination to follow policy issues avidly.
Certifications and Licenses:
- Valid California Non-commercial Class Driver's License.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

This role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures. The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate.
The expected pay range for this position is $206,274-$238,932 per annum for hybrid positions.
The expected pay range for this position is $140,164-$202,994 per annum for remote positions.
