The Sheriff's Communication and Engagement Specialist will enhance public awareness and engagement for the Dakota County Sheriff's Office through strategic communication efforts and content creation.

The Sheriff’s Communication and Engagement Specialist is an experienced, passionate, and enthusiastic public information and communications professional who plans, develops, implements, and evaluates communication and engagement strategies and activities. This position works closely with the Sheriff and Administration to develop and execute public information and communications efforts. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of social trends, be self-motivated, creative, engaging with all types of people, and have strong project management and communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Political Science, or in a closely related field.
- An Associate Degree in Communications Public Relations, Marketing, Political Science, or in a closely related field. AND at least two years related experience.
PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE BEYOND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in writing, editing, blogging, and updating content
- Experience with photo and video editing;
- Experience crafting and delivering newsletters, webinars, digital marketing materials, brochures, social media, articles, annual reports, advertorial messaging, or editorial communications.
- Experience with content creations, especially as it pertains to digital content on social media channels;
Candidates for employment with Dakota County Sheriff's Office must be able to comply with Policy 1043.3 which states that non-offensive tattoos which are visible while working are generally allowed. Duties & Responsibilities

1. Development ofPublic Information Communications strategy for the Sheriff’s Office;
2. Develop strategies, lead projects, and initiatives to increase public awareness, activities, resources, and accomplishments within the Sheriff’s Office
3. Responsible for curating, creating, scheduling, and posting content to all of the Sheriff’s Office social media channels
4. Ideate and create a variety of content formats including articles, video, presentations, social, print, etc.
5. Develop content ideas to connect with our community based on seasonal priorities and trends.
6. Create and edit video and photo content;
7. Assist in developing presentations based on current trends for the County Sheriff
8. Works with appropriate vendors in printing publications, online and print advertising, and contracted photography;
9. Serve as the first point of contact for the media inquiries and/or requests;
10. Manage media relations such as newspapers, radio, and television stations;
11. Knowledge and application of basic data practice laws and provide accurate information to the public as needed;
12. Compose and disseminate media releases
13. Assist with Sheriff’s Office recruitment efforts through social media and job fairs
14. i Coordinate public engagement events and displays such as Night to Unite and the Dakota County Fair booth.
15. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities and Work Environment
- Knowledge of best practices in community engagement and outreach.
- In depth understanding of social media trends
- Ability to ideate quickly
- Skilled in writing, editing, and proof reading for print and social media.
- Ability to use Adobe Creative Suites (including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) Software.
- Basic knowledge of Premiere Pro and Bridge
- Ability to create and edit video footage.
- Skilled in public speaking and making presentations to diverse audiences.
- Experience developing and executing engagement strategies that involve a variety of people and partners, including culturally specific communities and underserved groups.
- Skilled at managing multiple tasks concurrently, handling critical deadlines and maintaining a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to collaborate with other departments, partners, and workgroups.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a County office building and in the County jail. Exposure to hazardous physical conditions such as mechanical parts, electrical currents and vibration; atmospheric conditions such as fumes, dusts, gases, odors and poor ventilation; exposure to hazardous materials such as chemicals, blood and other body fluids; and intense noise may occur on the job. Equipment used may include, but is not limited to, computer, printer, telephone, calculator, copy and fax machines, hand-held radio and tools.
