Job Description:
Summary:
The SIS Department of Politics, Governance, and Economics (PGE) is seeking a student worker who will be responsible for supporting marketing, communications, and social media. The office is looking for a proactive and effective communicator to help increase our presence on social media, develop our department brand, and assist with the overall external communications of the department. Responsibilities:
  • Posting daily to the departmental accounts (Instagram, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Creating a social media strategy in consultation with department leadership, and executing that strategy through a full calendar of posts across all platforms.
  • Advising department leadership on effective use and best practices around social media engagement.
  • Assisting faculty in social media communications and best practices.
  • Content creation across all platforms in the department (socials, website, Eventbrite, print flyers, newsletters, etc.)
  • Designing promotional materials (flyers, event pages) for courses and department sponsored events.
  • Writing blog posts and feature stories about faculty research, student profiles, department events, or other topics.
  • Producing video, photo, and audio content.
  • This position will support special communications projects and other department initiatives as needed.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
  • 15-20 hours per week.
  • This position is for the spring 2025 semester.
Salary Range:
  • $17.50-$18.50 per hour.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Upper-level undergraduate or graduate student in communications, public relations, arts/media design, international communications, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple social media accounts.
  • Ability to identify social media engagement data and analyze for impact.
  • Proficiency in content creation tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite; Canva, YouTube).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Knowledge and interest in international affairs a plus.
  • Familiarity with podcast production and distribution a plus.
Additional Information:
  • Applicants are highly encouraged to submit a resume and a portfolio of at least three (3) past graphic design and/or media work to be considered. One sample in the portfolio must include substantial written materials for a public audience (e.g. a blog post, news story, etc.)
