The Social Media Associate will create engaging content for KCRW's social platforms, staying attuned to trends and audience needs, while promoting the organization's events, music, and culture.

As NPR’s flagship member station in Southern California for more than 30 years and a community service of Santa Monica College, KCRW is the next generation of public media.
The Social Media Associate will write copy and help produce daily content for KCRW’s social channels. The Social Media Associate will be able to distill the most sociable ideas from news, podcasts, events, culture and the KCRW organization for our online community conversations. An understanding of the right tone and best practices for TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram is crucial.
An understanding of KCRW’s programming and audience is essential as is the ability to communicate KCRW’s online voice clearly.
The Social Media Associate will report to the Growth Marketing Director and will work closely with the Audience team and other departments.
Here’s What You’ll Do:
Curious, open-minded individual with an overall awareness and interest in music, arts, culture, and design, as well as human interest and news stories,
- Ability to research and write succinctly and accurately on a variety of topics ranging from music to news to culture
- Great conversational copywriter with an understanding of the right mood for each channel’s audience, making sure KCRW is not just part of the conversation – but leading the conversation
- You have a sense of fun with a dash of spontaneity, as well as know the difference between serious and boring
- Timely and responsive, you efficiently bring the right content to the right audience
- Basic understanding of social media analytics
- Experience with social publishing (i.e. Hubspot), creating content, basic photo and video editing and design skills
- Experience with covering live events on social is a plus
- You’re a great collaborator and communicator, but can also work independently
Love of everything social, including staying on top of trends, best practices and platform changes
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Minimum 1 year+ of experience writing copy for FB, Twitter, Instagram content in culture-forward brand, agency or organization with strong social engagement
- Proficiency at all social media platforms including but not limited to FB, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, and X.
- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere or like products

- KCRW employees covered by the 2022-2026 SAG-AFTRA/KCRW contract need to follow the union security article of the contract, become a full voting member or fee-paying non-member
- There are annual base dues plus working dues of 1.575% of the previous calendar year's earnings
- The broadcast initiation fee specific to KCRW is $720 for full time and $360 for part time and there are payment plans
- Upon hire, SAG-AFTRA will be in contact with all necessary information
- Candidates can discuss any union specific questions with a shop steward upon hire
