About the Job
Group Exercise Instructors are responsible for leading in-person group exercise classes safely and effectively; assisting in program administration; managing class-related facility and equipment care; providing excellent customer service; participating in program marketing efforts; and completing occasional training and continuing education requirements.
We need you to fill the role of Spin Instructor. This is a part time, non-exempt, position. You’ll wow us by masterfully performing the following key duties and responsibilities:
- Design, choreograph, and lead Spin group exercise classes, both in-person and virtually if applicable (live and pre-recorded), according to current industry standards for safety and effectiveness, including proper warm-ups, cool-downs, and exercise/movement progressions.
- Teach, demonstrate, and promote proper class-specific exercise technique and form.
- Provide safe, appropriate, and effective exercise modifications when needed or requested by participants with an emphasis on injury prevention.
- Promote, enforce, and adhere to all program policies (i.e., class capacity limits, late-admission restrictions, music selection guidelines, etc.).
- Maintain a welcoming, positive, encouraging, inclusive, and non-intimidating classroom atmosphere.
- Return equipment and supplies to their proper condition and cleanliness, storage-space, and organization prior to the end of each class session’s room reservation.
- Support in the supervision of the safety and welfare of members throughout the fitness center.
- Maintain current accredited and/or licensed certifications for the class-formats being instructed.
- Proof of the appropriate certification for class type applying to teach and a CPR and AED certification.
- Pass all required criminal history background checks (which may, depending on the position you are hired for, include an FBI fingerprint check).
- Arrive to class location at least 15 minutes before class start time, in time to be fully set-up and prepared to begin instruction by at least 5-minutes prior to scheduled class start-time.
- Begin and end class sessions on-time, according to the advertised schedule and class-duration.
- Manage your own schedule, including sending calendar invites, cancellations, and notification of changes.
- Candidates with formal education, specialized certifications and trainings are highly preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Constant flow of foot traffic in and out of workspace.
- Constant low and medium level background noise.
- Ability to maintain a positive and encouraging demeanor and operate with a “sense of urgency.”
- Ability to stand, sit, squat, kneel, carry, lift, and walk over duration of shift.
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods. (often greater than 1 hour)
- Ability to engage in regular use of computer and mobile app for scheduling/communicating with team.
- Ability to move successfully around facility.
- Ability to work any hours the center is open between 6 AM – 10 PM, if needed.
- Ability to work on weekends and holidays, if needed.
- Ability to carry, lift, and transfer 25-65 pounds.
- Ability to demonstrate appropriate use of fitness equipment related to class.
Required education and experience:
- HS graduation or GED.
- Must be currently certified in CPR and AED (Acceptable certifications include American Heart Association and American Red Cross; any other certification must be approved by the hiring manager).
- A currently valid professional certification or degree from 2 or more of the following categories:
- A Group Exercise Instructor certification from an NCCA-accredited organization (i.e. ACE, AFAA, NCCPT, NETA, etc.).
- A college degree in a related field (i.e. Kinesiology, Physical Education, Dance, or comparable).
- A current format-specific group exercise instruction certification and/or license (i.e. Yoga Alliance, Spin, Pilates, Zumba, Barre, Kickboxing, etc.).
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients to achieve a safe and effective workout.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Direct experience related to the responsibilities of the position.
- Candidates with formal education, specialized certifications and trainings are highly preferred.
