Position Highlights
The Sport Programs Coordinator is a full-time position (12 month) that assists with the development and administration of a comprehensive competitive and recreational sports program, providing effective day-to-day supervision and implementation of programs and services within the Sports Division. Sports programs include collegiate club sports, intramural sports and special events. This position requires working some evenings and weekends. Coordinators are responsible for hands-on operations including personnel supervision, guest service, facility and equipment operations and maintenance, cash handling, delivery of programs and services, program design and curriculum, safety and risk management. Coordinates hiring, training, and supervising staff who oversee facilities and deliver programs and services. The position requires representation of the Department of Campus Recreation in a fair, consistent, cooperative and positive manner in accordance with Department and University policy. The position reports to the Assistant Director of Sports.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and supervision for the sports program designed to achieve the Campus Recreation vision and area goals; Program includes collegiate club sports, intramural sports and special events.
  • Provide daily supervision of program offerings and facility spaces that achieve exceptional quality, stewardship, and accountability.
  • Plan program offerings and design curriculum and activities intended to meet guidelines set by leadership staff on program mix, participation targets, and financial parameters.
  • Collaborate with department staff to ensure facility spaces are maintained as needed to meet industry standards for programmatic use; this includes implementing routine inspections and audits.
  • Assist with the annual budget submission. Provide financial supervision necessary to achieve budget targets, carrying out best practices in financial stewardship.
  • Staff supervision including hiring, training, scheduling, feedback, evaluations, payroll, and disciplinary processes for ancillary, student, and volunteer staff. This includes club coaches and other volunteers. Indirect supervision of independent contractors. The development and engagement of student staff is an emphasis.
  • Develop for review and approval any pertinent program area procedures, processes and training or operations manuals.
  • Develop or update necessary emergency procedures, safety practices, and risk management processes in conjunction with administration and the department risk management committee.
  • Ensure compliance with national governing body/association rules and regulations.
  • Collaborate with the department judicial board and implement player disciplinary action.
  • Oversee Dean’s excuses and player eligibility.
  • Oversee game operations for clubs and intramural competitions.
  • Collaborate with department marketing staff to implement publicity strategies to maximize program participation. Conduct outreach efforts in order to increase awareness and visibility of the program.
  • Ensure the highest possible level of customer service in order to provide exceptional experience in sports programs. Implement program assessment tools to assess market needs and interests, participant satisfaction, and overall program feedback. Report on results, including strategies for process improvement.
  • Execute equipment and supply purchasing within budgetary parameters according to UA policies. Inventory and maintain all equipment and supplies to ensure quality, safety, and security.
  • Provide ongoing, semester, and annual updates on pertinent measures of success, including participation, assessment data, financial status, and area happenings.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Campus Recreation, the University of Arizona, and Tucson community as necessary to achieve program success, collaborations, and partnerships.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with current and potential participants and alumni in order to maximize program success.
  • Ensure proficiency in Campus Recreation and University of Arizona policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Engage in Campus Recreation, University of Arizona, and pertinent industry training and development opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in recreation, sports management, sports marketing, higher education or a related field.
  • Sports officiating experience.
  • Two years of staff supervision experience, including the development of student staff.
  • Demonstrated experience with program development, marketing, financial management, safety and risk management.
  • Demonstrated experience of national governing bodies for collegiate club sports.
  • Experience with collaborative programming and the ability to form positive relationships.
