SHORT DESCRIPTION

The STEAM Career Pathways Education Manager will develop and implement comprehensive career pathways programs, promote STEAM careers, and create partnerships to enhance educational experiences, focusing on students aged 12-18, while fostering relationships and ensuring diverse participation.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Da Vinci Science Center is seeking a STEAM Career Pathways Education Manager to join our education team to develop and implement the STEAM Career Pathways Program. You will lead the development of career pathways and career readiness programs for the science center. Primary responsibilities include (1) Building capacity for, developing, and executing a brand-new comprehensive initiative including new programs such as field trips, summer camps, internships, and career in-school and afterschool programs, (2) Forming partnerships with 10+ academic, corporate, government, and nonprofit partners to showcase STEAM careers throughout the valley and provide educational experiences preparing for careers, (3) Coordinating events related to the STEAM Career Pathways Initiative, and (4) Managing full or part time coordinators and educators involved in the Initiative. The STEAM Career Pathways Education Manager works with team members across departments and in the community to continuously expand the impact and reach of the Da Vinci Science Center and the Career Pathways Program. The flexible schedule includes some evenings, weekends, and holidays.

The STEAM Career Pathways Education Manager is a visionary leader with specific in-depth knowledge of STEAM careers and the pipeline to STEAM careers. The manager has a passion and vision for developing strong relationships with K-12 partners, colleges, universities, and industry partners to understand, develop and create a Career Pathways Program that will not only expose students to STEAM careers but will create a pipeline for these careers. The manager has a deep understanding of the STEAM area industry and job opportunities. The manager will lead the development and implementation of the STEAM Career Pathways Program, working closely with academic and industry partners, and coordinating student programs including experiential learning opportunities and public events. They excel at building, developing and maintaining positive relationships with students, families, schools, the community, and partnering organizations. They enjoy creating unique and engaging hands-on science, technology, engineering, arts, and math career experiences for students (especially 12-18 years old) and families on a variety of topics including but not limited to manufacturing, education, and healthcare. They utilize the Pennsylvania Career Education Work standards to develop and implement experiences for students to increase their knowledge and interest in STEAM Careers. The Career Pathways Education Manager will engage with internal and external partners to create a credentials system recognized across the region as students enter their chosen field. This individual must have excellent presentation, leadership, and organizational skills. The candidate will display a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging in all aspects of their work and a strongly held belief that all students belong in STEAM. Creativity, complex problem solving, classroom management, initiative, and a productive relationship with team members are key to the manager’s success.


MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


Leadership of STEAM Career Programs at Da Vinci

  • Expand the impact and reach of current and new Career Pathways and WISE programs through the development of strong partnerships throughout the region.

  • Develop knowledge and expertise in STEAM careers and WISE programming. Provide regular updates to Da Vinci staff on career opportunities, industry demand for jobs in specific fields, and in-demand skills for high priority occupations. Lead professional development opportunities for staff related to Pennsylvania Career Education Work Standards.

  • Become a champion for the STEAM Career Pathways and WISE programs internally and externally.

  • Research and identify current trends in career development and youth programs in museums establishing high standards for educational excellence.

  • Use research and community feedback to shape program content that engages all audiences, including those that are typically underrepresented.

  • Conduct regular program evaluations to assess their effectiveness in achieving learning objectives. Incorporate feedback into program design.

  • Promote exemplary communication by utilizing email and SharePoint to provide updates and coordinate planning for Career Programs. Selectively attend the Public Programming Committee and Operations Team meetings to coordinate Career Programs. Serve on internal WISE Team.

  • Support the success of other programming initiatives.


STEAM Career Pathways Program Development and Delivery

  • Collaboratively develop and implement STEAM Career Pathways programs based on research, PA Career Education Work Standards, grant requirements, student and community feedback, industry demand, and best practices for youth and career development programs.

  • With the ASD Partnership Director, work with regional academic, industry, and economic development partners to establish common badging and certificate requirements for STEAM careers in high demand. As appropriate, develop pathways for specific careers which include Da Vinci experiences and high school, career and technical school, and college dual enrollment courses.

  • Coordinate and deliver STEAM Career Pathways classroom, afterschool, weekend and summer programs. Schedule can include programs up to 4 hours long, some off-site and some on-site.

  • Lead the development, implementation, and program logistics for guest speakers, shadowing, and field trips as part of the STEAM Career Pathways Program both on-site and off-site.

  • Lead the development, implementation, and program logistics for volunteer and internship experiences for the STEAM Career Pathways Program. Provide coaching and leadership development for student cohorts of volunteers and interns.

  • Drive to and from the site where your program will take place, occasionally using a company vehicle (travel is usually within 25 miles of the Da Vinci Science Center). Travel in a personal vehicle is reimbursed at the federal IRS mileage rate.


Other Career Programs at Da Vinci

  • With Da Vinci colleagues, expand opportunities to expose young people to career opportunities and connect them with practicing STEAM professionals, encouraging them to consider further studies and STEAM careers, including but not limited to, STEAM Career Pathways Certificate Program, WISE Programs, Summer Camps, Career Connection Days, and School Field Trip experiences.

  • Lead the development, implementation, and day-of program logistics of Career Connection Days field trips on-site.

  • With the ASD Partnership Director and Chief Philanthropy Officer, expand industry participation in career programs to reflect local need.


Staff Management and Training:

  • Manage the hiring, onboarding, training, and timesheets of new staff that become a part of the STEAM Career Pathways Initiative.

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and support for staff, including consistent coaching, feedback, employee observation and reviews.

  • Lead the employee review process for staff, including setting employee goals and tracking progress.

  • Identify professional development opportunities for staff.

  • Make diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging a priority in hiring, training, and daily operations.

  • Actively promote the science center's mission by nurturing a culture of belonging, positivity, and professionalism. Encourage problem-solving and prevent disruptive behaviors and miscommunication. Display a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, access and belonging in all aspects of your work.

Revenue Generation and Budgeting

  • Develop annual budgets for program areas that meet or exceed revenue and impact goals. Develop and execute strategies to increase revenue generation, including design of the STEAM Career Pathways Program for paying customers (over time).

  • Work with the philanthropy department to support fundraising and sponsorship opportunities, proposal development, and grant applications and reporting. Track metrics required for grant reports.

Marketing

  • Work with Marketing to actively promote programs, including social media. Work with the team to establish a marketing plan for each program. Help to implement the plan. Support timely development of promotional materials.

  • Developing the language to be used for marketing, including the creation of flyers, website updates, emails, social media posts, posters, booklets, and slideshow presentations.

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Education or related field

  • Expertise in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, or Math; knowledge of effective STEAM teaching techniques NGSS practices

  • Experience developing programs, specifically to support middle and high school students and underrepresented students including women and girls in STEAM

  • Knowledge of regional STEAM careers and experience designing programs aligned with PA Career Education Work Standards

  • Three years classroom experience; teaching in public or private school preferred

  • Museum experience leading science, technology, engineering, arts, math, or education programs preferred.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish with the ability to read, write, speak, and teach a class fluently, preferred

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook, Teams)

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

REQUIREMENTS

Successful completion of a criminal background check including checks through the Pennsylvania State Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Pennsylvania Child Abuse Registry. Additional clearances may be required as changing regulations are implemented. Successful candidates will need a valid Driver’s License and proof of Auto Insurance coverage.
