INTECON, LLC is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Strategic Communications Content Specialist to support AFWERX communications initiatives. This role is critical in shaping and executing content strategies that align with AFWERX goals and Director priorities, ensuring clear, consistent, and impactful communication across multiple audiences, including leadership, subject matter experts (SMEs), small businesses, and industry stakeholders.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Strategic Communications Content Specialist will:

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive content strategy that aligns with AFWERX mission objectives and audience needs.
  • Lead and manage a content calendar, ensuring a consistent flow of high-quality content across multiple platforms.
  • Establish and enforce content creation guidelines and best practices, ensuring brand consistency, message alignment, and high-quality communication products.
  • Research, write, and edit press releases, articles, website content, cutlines, and infographics that effectively communicate AFWERX's value and innovation efforts.
  • Translate complex technical information into engaging narratives, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance with operational security (OPSEC) requirements.
  • Design and develop creative communication and marketing products, including presentations, briefings, and basic graphics, to highlight AFWERX initiatives for internal, public, and industry audiences.
  • Copyedit a variety of written materials, including technical documentation, for clarity, consistency, completeness, readability, and compliance with Department of the Air Force (DAF) style guidelines.
  • Ensure brand consistency across all AFWERX communications, messaging, and outreach materials.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, military personnel, and external stakeholders to gather accurate and up-to-date information for content development.
  • Develop tailored communication materials that resonate with target audiences and effectively demonstrate AFWERX's value.
  • Stay informed on emerging trends, best practices, and new technologies to continuously refine AFWERX's communication strategies and outreach efforts.
  • Participate in meetings and discussions to gather key insights and enhance content development strategies.
  • Travel as required to support stakeholder engagements, industry events, and ecosystem partnerships.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in communications, content strategy, or public relations, preferably within a military, government, or defense environment.
  • Proven ability to craft clear, concise, and compelling messaging across various formats, including long-form content, reports, and presentations.
  • Strong experience in copywriting, content development, and digital marketing, ensuring audience engagement and information accuracy.
  • Ability to distill complex technological and policy-driven topics into easy-to-understand narratives for diverse audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across multiple levels of the organization.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, critical thinking skills, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Desired skills include basic photography for content creation and media use.
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools, including Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive).
  • Ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities, demonstrating strong time management skills and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a highly dispersed, remote organization while maintaining high productivity and effectiveness.

Certifications and Training

Preferred certifications:

  • Hootsuite Social Marketing Certification
  • Content Marketing Institute Certification
  • Google Analytics Certification

Proficiency in:

  • Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive)
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
  • Social media content management tools (Hootsuite, Sprout Social, HubSpot)
  • Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro) (preferred but not required)

Specialized Training in:

  • Government and Military Public Affairs
  • Digital Marketing and Content Strategy
  • OPSEC-Compliant Communication

Security Clearance

Active Secret Clearance required, with the ability to obtain Top Secret (TS/SCI) if needed.
