LOCATION
Hybrid: Mix of in-office work at corporate headquarters in Del Mar, CA and remote work (1 day in office per week).
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Science, Technical Communication, Communication, Information Technology, or English, 2+ years of experience in technical writing, excellent written and verbal communication skills, familiarity with content and learning management systems (e.g., Adobe FrameMaker, Madcap Flare, Articulate).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Design, develop, and publish technical content for user guides and training materials, maintain asset repository for technical product screens and graphics, collaborate with cross-functional teams, analyze documents for continuity of style, and ensure compliance with company policies.

WHEN & WHERE YOU’LL WORK:
Hybrid: This role will be a mix of in-office work at our corporate headquarters in Del Mar, CA and remote work. This position is expected to be in office 1 day per week but may vary depending on business demands.
A DAY IN THE LIFE:
Technical Content Designers at Tandem are responsible for designing, developing, and publishing technical content and layouts for user guides and training materials by applying technical knowledge and expertise in the systems used for content design and management. The Technical Content Designer will support technical writers and learning experience designers on assignments within the Education & Digital Training group and collaborate with cross-functional partners in Product Marketing, Brand Content & Creative, and UX Design. In addition to building and populating content layouts, this role will also be responsible for maintaining the asset repository for technical product screens and graphics across a variety of languages and units of measure. This role also requires advanced technical skills in the tools and software used to build templates, manage style guides, and manipulate content layouts.
A Technical Content Designers at Tandem also:
- Analyzes documents to maintain continuity of style of content.
- Assists in determining the needs of end users of technical documentation.
- Organizes content and designs pages for supporting product documentation in simple and easy to use layouts
- Commissions screenshots and illustrations to elaborate on or complement technical writing from internal staff members.
- Populates page layouts and publishes user guides using content authoring and publishing tool.
- Evaluates needs and contributes to decisions for technology, tools, and subscription requirements aligned to industry standards and best practices.
- Creates, adapts, and follows project schedules and deadlines.
- Collaborates with multiple department SMEs to learn how to use products, including experimental pre-production versions during research and development, and to ensure accuracy of information through shared review commenting process.
- Assists with updates and revisions to technical literature.
- Produces electronic documentation in addition to hard copy manuals.
- Ensures compliance with company policies, including Privacy/HIPAA, and other legal and regulatory requirements.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to quickly learn software programs.
- Ability to deliver high quality documentation paying attention to detail.
- Capable of managing multiple priorities effectively and able to identify and recommend best course of action from several alternatives.
- Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable for multiple audiences.
- Strong prioritization and multi-tasking skills.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to quickly become familiar with products and target audiences, and understands different language styles that appeal to various target markets.
- Excellent proofreading and fact-checking skills.
- Excellent written skills in English.
- Ability to take direction and to give and receive constructive feedback.
- Desire to work in a fast-paced collaborative environment is essential.
- Bachelors’ Degree (example of emphasis: Science, Technical Communication, Communication, Information Technology, English)
- 2 plus years’ experience working in a technical writing position.
- Experience with designing in content and learning management systems such as Adobe FrameMaker, Madcap Flare and Articulate.
- Diabetes or medical/healthcare experience preferred but not required.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
The starting base pay range for this position is $70,700 - 88,400 annually. Base pay will vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and may also fluctuate depending on candidate’s location and the overall job market. In addition to base pay, Tandem offers a competitive compensation package that includes bonus, equity, and a robust benefits package.
Tandem offers health care benefits such as medical, dental, vision available your first day, as well as health savings accounts and flexible saving accounts. You’ll also receive 11 paid holidays per year, a minimum of 20 days of paid time off (with accrual starting on day 1) and you will have access to a 401k plan with company match as well as an Employee Stock Purchase plan.
