Salary: $190,000-$205,000 + 20% Annual Incentive Opportunity

SUMMARY
Develops, drives, and executes strategic initiatives for the American Arbitration Association's Institute. Identifies market opportunities, and fosters partnerships with various stakeholders including entrepreneurs, academic institutions, and technology providers. Supports product development, research management, educational program oversight, and strategic alliance formation, with a particular emphasis on leveraging technology and data-driven solutions to enhance alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support development and execution of Institute’s strategic plan, including mapping the Institute’s activities to align with the AAA-ICDR’s organizational goals.
  • Define needs and challenges in the market, then identify and vet prospective partners for collaboration including entrepreneurs, technology, academic institutions, and mission-aligned organizations.
  • Support project execution teams, including defining stakeholders, goals, timeline, and launch process.
  • Support the AAA’s product development strategy, vision, workshopping, product management, go to market, and product marketing.
  • Manage pipeline of data-driven research/analysis to address pressing challenges, and build a diverse body of research and policy recommendations regarding ADR, access to justice, and technology.
  • Support execution and promotion of educational programs and events and partner with the marketing department to develop programs to promote the Institute as a thought and innovation leader.
  • Where appropriate, support the AAA’s investment arm in strategic direction and activities.
  • Source creative collaboration and investment opportunities based on identified problems, vetting prospective market solutions that will leverage the value of AAA’s business and tech tools to provide economies of scale in innovative ways and create new ways of working.
  • Define, create business case, and execute strategic initiatives to generate innovative and practical solutions to increase impact through M&A and/or collaboration.
  • Advise on go-to-market model and acceleration efforts as appropriate: identify growth opportunities, lead stakeholder collaboration, support messaging and positioning, and drive user feedback and best practices.
  • Proactively develop positive relationships, build rapport, demonstrate credibility and authority, and nurture trust with key internal and external stakeholders to deepen business relationships and support AAA-IDR objectives.
  • Act as internal liaison between Institute and corporate development teams to ensure mutual understanding of context, needs and opportunities to transform how disputes are resolved.
  • Define vetting procedures to evaluate incoming strategic alliance opportunities to expand impact, manage risk, and leverage core capabilities and assets.
  • Strategic alliances are especially prudent vehicles for entering emerging markets because they help form the required business relationships and learn the relevant business practices faster than would have been possible otherwise.
  • Furthermore, strategic alliances often result in more efficient use of capital, as the cost of the investment is shared and the risk dispersed among the partners in accordance with their skill set/asset contribution.
  • Demonstrate regular, reliable, predictable job attendance.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (J.D., MBA, or Master's in related field) strongly preferred
  • Relevant professional certifications in ADR, project management, or business development a plus
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in business development, strategic partnerships, or corporate development
  • At least 5 years of experience in leadership roles managing complex initiatives and cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully developing and implementing strategic initiatives
  • Experience in legal technology, dispute resolution, or legal services industry preferred
  • Experience managing strategic partnerships and alliance relationships
  • Travel Requirements: Ability to travel up to 15% domestically and internationally
