Seeking a strategic marketing leader to drive brand growth and optimize marketing investments at Phunware, Inc., while leading a team and enhancing relationships with investors and stakeholders.

Phunware, Inc., a leader in enterprise cloud solutions for mobile applications, seeks a strategic, hands-on marketing leader to drive brand growth, optimize marketing investments, strengthen market position, and engage with our investor community. The marketing team plays a vital role in driving Phunware’s growth objectives and repositioning the brand to align with those goals.


In this role, you will develop and execute broad and vertical-specific marketing strategies to increase brand awareness, drive customer acquisition, and generate sales leads. You will oversee the marketing content calendar, coordinate input across the organization, and collaborate with cross-functional teams—including product, sales, and design—to ensure cohesive campaigns supported by external agencies and freelancers.


The ideal candidate is a versatile marketing professional with broad expertise across various disciplines, a data-driven leader with strong digital marketing experience, proven success in managing high-impact campaigns, an entrepreneurial mindset, and the ability to solve problems swiftly and effectively. Reporting to the CMO, this is a key leadership role with opportunities to shape the future of our marketing and grow the team as we continue to expand and innovate.


Team Leadership

  • Build, mentor, and lead an internal marketing team that embodies Phunware’s core values
  • Manage external relationships with agencies, contractors, and partners to ensure alignment, consistency, and cross-team collaboration.


Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing strategy to drive brand awareness, strengthen market position, and support revenue growth.
  • Act as a key advisor to the executive team, aligning marketing efforts with business objectives, market trends, and customer needs.
  • Foster cross-team collaboration to ensure alignment, maximize resources, and drive unified efforts across departments to achieve organizational goals.
  • Innovate marketing approaches by leveraging industry trends, competitive insights, and emerging marketing technologies.


Corporate and External Communications

  • Lead corporate communications, ensuring clear and compelling messaging for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with media, industry analysts, and influencers, positioning the company as a thought leader.
  • Oversee crisis communications, public statements, and press releases in coordination with PW’s PR/IR Agency of Record.


Investor Relations

  • Collaborate with the executive team to create consistent and impactful investor communications, including earnings calls, shareholder letters, podcasts, press releases, social media posts, etc.
  • Develop Investor presentations, attend investor conferences, and Phunware facilitated conferences.

Marketing Strategy and Execution

  • Oversee integrated marketing campaigns across digital, content, PR, and events to drive lead generation, customer acquisition, and product launches.
  • Establish and oversee management of PW’s marketing and content calendars, ensuring alignment and coordination across teams, agencies, and contributors.
  • Lead website management, SEO/SEM strategies, and performance marketing campaigns to optimize customer engagement and ROI.
  • Develop strategies for high-visibility events such as trade shows, investor meetings, and industry conferences.


Brand and Content Management

  • Lead Phunware's rebranding project to reposition and clearly articulate the value proposition for each business vertical, emphasizing leadership in generative and edge AI.
  • Oversee Phunware’s rebranding initiative to enhance brand equity, refine messaging, and strengthen the company’s market presence.
  • Ensure brand consistency across all channels and touchpoints, establishing Phunware as an innovative leader.
  • Oversee the creation of thought leadership content, including white papers, blogs, webinars, podcasts, and case studies.

Data-Driven Marketing

  • Establish KPIs and analyze performance metrics to measure ROAS and optimize/refine campaign strategies.
  • Leverage customer data and market insights to inform decision-making and improve marketing effectiveness.


Budget and Resource Management

  • Develop and manage the marketing budget, ensuring efficient resource management and continual optimization of ROI.
  • Present results, key metrics, and strategic recommendations to stakeholders and the executive team.

Ideal Qualifications we Seek in a Candidate:


  • 10+ years of senior marketing experience, including leadership roles in B2B tech, SaaS, or cloud-based solutions.
  • Proven expertise in corporate communications, media relations, and stakeholder engagement at the executive level.
  • Deep understanding of the software industry, including product lifecycles, market dynamics, and competitive landscapes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, leveraging data to inform strategies.
  • Experience managing investor relations and finance-related communications.
  • Proficiency in marketing technology, including CRM systems (e.g., HubSpot), analytics tools, and marketing automation platforms.

  • Experience with paid media campaigns and performance marketing for both SaaS and service-based offerings.


The Details:

  • The posted pay range of $190k - $225k would be geographically adjusted based on the remote work location. New hires are typically aligned to the lower half of the pay range. Opportunities for subsequent pay increases based on performance are available.
  • This is a full-time, remote US-based role that includes a full benefits package (medical, dental, vision, life, ancillary insurance, paid time off, and incentive compensation).
  • Occasional overnight travel is required.
