Bachelor's degree in journalism, broadcast producing, reporting, video production, photo journalism, or a related field; one year of experience in video production, videography, editing, or digital media content creation. Valid Arizona driver's license required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Produce high-quality videos for city platforms, create engaging social media content, conduct independent shoots and interviews, edit video content, write scripts, occasionally report on camera, and operate drones for aerial imagery.

Description
We’re looking for a talented professional who will use their videography, editing, content creation and storytelling skills to make a difference in our community! This person would produce quality short or long-form videos and other visual content for distribution on the city’s social media platforms and TV station.
Our ideal candidate would also have the ability to occasionally do reports on camera as a city news reporter.
This individual would join a nationally award winning, and dynamic team of communications professionals. The City of Glendale’s Communications Department was just recently selected as 2024 ‘Communications Team of the Year’ by the Public Relations Society of America’s Phoenix Chapter!
Salary:
- FLSA non-exempt, and will earn overtime for any hours worked over 40 in a week.
- A Grade 319 with with an hourly salary between $31.8574 - $47.7861.

Regular status positions offer:
- The City of Glendale observes 10.5 holidays per year, and full-time employees are also granted an additional 12 hours of holiday special leave to celebrate their cultural or religious holidays throughout the calendar year.
- Vacation leave accrues at:
- 5.33 hours per pay period (138 hours/17.25* days per year)
- Increases to 6.12 hours after 5 years
- Then caps out at 7.6 hours after 10 years of service.
- Sick leave accrues at 4.4 hours per pay period (114 hours/14.25 days* per year).
Days per year estimates are based on an 8-hour work day.
This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
- The current contribution rate is 12.27%.
- Contributions are mandatory, and are collected each pay period.

Essential Functions
- Produces interesting, appealing, and high quality short or long-form videos for distribution on the city’s digital platforms as well as for Glendale’s TV station.
- Produces engaging social media content, to include following the style of popular trends and making that style fit a government agency.
- Shoots interviews and b-roll independently with a digital camera.
- Edits content for short of long form videos.
- Writes clear and concise copy in a conversational layman’s language style for videos.
- Completes assignments independently but will also remain an active part of a creative team and contribute to group projects.
- Gathers information for projects and ensures accuracy.

Depending on area of assignment:
- Writes show scripts.
- Appears on camera as a city news reporter or multimedia journalist (MMJ).
- May serve as a director in their absence during meetings or events.
- Captures high-quality aerial imagery and video through skilled drone operation, ensuring stable and precise camera control, optimal settings adjustment, and smooth flight path execution to deliver visually compelling content for various projects.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications/Special Requirements/Success Factors
Assigned specialty areas of this role may include:
- Writing show scripts
- Appearing on camera as a city news reporter or multimedia journalist (MMJ)
- Serving as a director in their absence during meetings or events
- Performing drone photography
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.
- Current industry trends, quality standards and best practices in videography and video editing.
- Writing, producing, shooting, and interviewing techniques.

Operation of digital cameras, audio recording equipment, and lighting system operation.
- Operate a city vehicle.
- Shoot video with a digital camera.
- Edit video content.
- Write concise and engaging copy.
- Work either individually or as part of a team.
- Continually learn and apply new skills via online training classes or self-study courses.
- Work flexible hours and occasional weekends.
Special Requirements:
- Valid Arizona driver's license.
- This position is classified as safety-sensitive which requires candidates to successfully undergo drug and alcohol testing prior to employment. They will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy. A post-offer physical assessment is required. The City of Glendale will incur the cost of all required testing.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Physical Requirements:
Daily lifting and carrying of heavy equipment of up to 50 pounds. Awkward positions are occasionally maintained when operating equipment. Must be able to enter, exit, and operate city vehicles.
Working Conditions:
General office and on-site locations. Some occasional exposure to adverse weather conditions and electrical hazards.
